I tried to uninstall "BuddyPress" from my site and now whenever I try to access my site either through the URL or admin control panel, this message appears "Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_site_admin() in /home/content/96/6587896/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-links/bp-links-admin.php on line 20"

I believe this is because I did not delete the BuddyPress add-ons before deleting the main plugin.

Is there anything I could do to avoid the loss of the content that has been building up on the site from the past couple months? It is really important that the site gets recovered soon because it is a very popular celebrity fan site.

Try manually resetting your plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 - 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue.

if neither of those resolve the issue, try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download.
