Hi. As far as I know, I am using the latest version of WordPress, but I just tried to log onto my admin page and it said the site didn't exist. Anybody know what this is about?
My site is a subdomain of my husband's. The URL is http://smokeandmirrors.cityofsmoke.com

I get a database connection error on both the home page and Admin (of your subdomain):
Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.
* Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
* Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
* Are you sure that the database server is running?If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

Yeah, me too--though it wasn't on the main domain before. What does it mean, though, and why am I getting it. Does it mean someone hacked our site?

Please, can someone help us? We don't even know if this is a wordpress issue or something with the web hosting service. We'd be so grateful for some guidance!

Did you change your wp-config.php settings to the correct settings you setup during the WP install?
It's most likely an issue with your config settings, not wordpress or the web hosting service.
Do you have a local copy of your wp-config.php file? If 'yes' try uploading it to the root folder of your WordPress installation.
The WP install on the main domain - http://www.cityofsmoke.com - is fine, so that pretty much rules out a web hosting problem.

I think I have to agree with adiant and NOLAKeith. The wordpress site on the main domain worked ok for me, but the sub-domain gives me the error. That tells me that the SQL server at your host is probably working okay. Take a look at your wp-config file, and verify that all of the information is correct, and that any recent edits, upgrades, changes, etc, haven't resulted in a file corruption or missing files.
It sure does look like just a mismatch of some kind between the database and user info in wp-config, and the actual data.

Clayton and esmi--thanks so much for answering. Sorry to hear about your hand, Clayton but glad to hear you're on the mend.
This site has been up since January and I've never done anything to change the wp-config.php settings. Wouldn't know what they are where to find them. Can you give me a hint, guys?

The wp-config file should be in the root folder or wherever your blog is housed.
For instance, I would imagine the wp-config file is housed in the smokeandmirrors folder.
Also, if you've changed permalinks or something of the sort it could interrupt the site.

What should the wp-config file look like? How do I know what's wrong and fix it. I don't really know what permalinks are, so I doubt that I changed any. :)

Okay....I wouldn't imagine then it was permalinks.
If you don't knwo what the wp-config file is then that may be your problem.
The error appears to be from the database connection. Inside the wp-config files is the database user, database password, database name, etc. which is used to connect to the database.
If you didnt set that up, someone had to because you say it was once working (or am I assuming it worked).
I dont know what hosting service you are using but if you have access to the FTP, the wp-config file should be in the htdocs or httpdocs folder.
