[resolved] Can't access my admin area (9 posts)

    Hi everyone,

I recently just created my guitar website last week, and it definitely wasn't as easy as I had hoped.

Anyway, I deleted some css code from the class.rss php (I believe), thinking it would delete the rss button, but instead I now can't even access the admin area of my site.

    The code I deleted was:

[Code moderated as per the Forum Rules. The maximum number of lines of code that you can post in these forums is ten lines. Please use the pastebin]

And I might even have deleted both.

Also, I am currently using a Pagelines theme.

    An error comes up saying:

    Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.northshoreguitarlessons.net/wp-admin/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
    Here are some suggestions:
    Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

I would be extremely grateful to any help,

    Tim

    Hi Brian,

Thank you so much for the reply, but this pops up when I try to log in:

    Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.northshoreguitarlessons.net/wp-admin/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
    Here are some suggestions:
    Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

    What should I do?

Don't know I'm not seeing the 500 error...

Did you modify a core file or a template file?

If it was a template file try renaming your template folder to get it deactivated so you can login.

If you modified a core file reinstall WordPress (or replace the modified files).

The 500 error only comes up when I try to actually log in.

I think I did modify a template file or a core file.

I'll try re-installing WordPress, because I can't get on my dashboard or anywhere else.

I'll let you know know how it goes.

Sorry, I don't actually know how to reinstall WordPress. Can you please explain easy to follow steps.

I must be missing something, because I don't know of a way to rename files without going onto the admin area?

To reinstall all files, you can follow the directions for a manual update http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update.

However as you know which file you changed, so the first thing to try would be to just replace the file you edited with a fresh copy extracted from the WordPress zip

You should never edit WordPress core files
