having upgraded to 2.7 (after having had to upload some files twice and three times (cron and upgrade, which I think is not uncommon); I logged in, got the message my database needs to be updated, followed the instructions and now when I try to log in I just get returned to the log-in screen. I've tried resetting my password (several times) and get the same result. If I try to visit my blog (duckduckgoosestuff.co.uk/duckduckBLOG) I get a blank white screen, which I think means I need to revert to the default template.
anyway. I can't do anything at all until I can access the admin.
any help would be much appreciated, I'm feeling slightly desperate.

oh - I have tried searching for this, but what I find seems to say that it's a plug-in issue and I deactivated them all before the upgrade.
If it's a question of editing files and uploading them to my server I can cope with that but I am afraid I might need talking through it slowly.
Try this address and see if you can login. If so, when you login select the default theme and see if that clears the problem.

the only thing I have found now (sorry, typically I found it after making the original post) - do I need to add secret keys and authentication codes to my config file? I've come from an older version, I think 2.5, which didn't have them. if so - where should I put them?
do I need to add secret keys and authentication codes to my config file?
Not required, but it is a good idea to do it. Create a new wp-config.php file using the default wp-config-sample.php file and you will see there to include these.

yep, I did that. it doesn't seem to have helped :(
and I have tried accessing via the login, the page remains the same (um. sorry) but the url changes to:
wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fduckduckgoosestuff.co.uk%2FduckduckBLOG%2Fwp-admin%2F
I seem to be stuck in an infinite loop. other browsers don't help, either. gah.
thank you, figaro, I appreciate your help.

in the end, if this is at all useful to anyone else:
I restored my old installation of 2.3.2, which solved the log in issue, though I still had white pages with no visible code in the source - and found that the default theme (and classic) was broken. Using another theme solved this. I'm a little wary of upgrading again - but at least I know I can revert if it all goes wrong!
thanks for your help; it was much appreciated.
