Can't access files I sent over via FTP (3 posts)

I am new to WordPress, so I apologize in advance if the answer to this is obvious and I missed it. I am trying to get an xml sitemap for my page. I tried building one and then FTPing it over, and I tried a using a WordPress plugin. The problem is that I see the sitemap.xml file in the proper directory (the plugin put it there), but when I try to access it using http://myaddress.com/sitemap.xml, it says it doesn't exist. I tried to FTP image files over a few weeks ago and I couldn't view them either, even though they were clearly visible in the main directory of my blog.

I assume there is a way to make these files recognizable by WordPress. I am using yahoo webhosting and my blog uses a subdomain. Once again, I am very new to WordPress, and have been learning as I go along, but this is one I can't figure out.

    Thanks in advance,
    David

Have you tried chgmod to make the file 777, readable and writeable?

Yes, I did that through ACEHtp by clicking on the properties of the file and typing in 777 in the appropriate box. Unfortunately, that didn't make the file visible (unless there is some sort of delay).
