I would really appreciate some help with the following problem.
I have installed wordpress on a hosting site (1&1). I created a site structure via them and generated a generic domain name. I then forwarded my own domain name to the generic domain. All of this works fine.
I have added the google meta line into my header.php, in the correct area between <head> and </head>. When I tried to verify my own domain name, Google cannot verify. I then decided to try via the html method and added the required html code to the root directory on the server. Same result.
However when I enter the generic domain name into google webmaster, it verified the generic site domain immediately. But couldn't find any meta data.
I have also added all the meta data into the header.php page, immediately after the Google verification meta tag. At this point the site description and meta material does not seem to be visible.

What I am trying to achieve is that Google can verify and search my site, based on using the url of my own domain name.

I am getting a bit out of my depth in resolving this as I have tried for 2 days now :-)

Any help would be genuinely appreciated.

  2. You may not be putting it in quite the right place. Give this plugin a try

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-to-header/

Once you've entered the meta info, load your blog on another browser and view the source. If it's there then you should be able verified.

Thanks Jan, I did this and when I tried to activate the plug in I recieved the following message.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /homepages/45/d345581316/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/add-to-header/add-to-header.php on line 22

  4. Wow. That's odd... I picked that one up because I thought I used it before.

Search through the plugin repository, there may be one that works for you.
