Cannot use TRANSPARENT images

Kia Ora,
My query is in regard to TRANSPARENT images:

I’m using Macromedia Freehand 11 to generate my image.
I’m saving the image as a 32-bit graphic with alpha.
The image includes an alpha channel.
I’m uploading images using the “Media Library”

ALL GOOD SO FAR, THEN, AFTER UPLOADING AND CRUNCHING:

I get this screenshot.

The graphic will show up if I edit it(crop, resize etc….)and I get this screenshot after i’ve clicked “Edit”

This graphic will not display at all when used in posts, pages, searches, archives, widgets, text widgets, in tables.

Any help would be much appreciated.
