When editing, I cannot do anything. I cannot update posts. I have tried disabling all plugins with no avail. I’ve used all of the default themes. The browser does not matter… I’ve cleared the cache, and history on all browsers — Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome. Word count is 0 on all browsers, after logging in, and the “Visual” tab looks exactly like the “Text” tab. This happened randomly. I’m well versed in IT, and I normally never ask for help.

I’m fairly certain that I need to reinstall WordPress, but I’m trying to avoid that. I don’t really care if I have to do that, but I don’t really want to. Yoast’s SEO plugin is not accessible, no matter the circumstance. What do you recommend?

Well, I cannot edit the original post, so this is what I want to say: please delete the post above.

When editing a post in WordPress, I cannot do anything. I cannot update posts, and I cannot edit existing text, even though the text box is visible, and text can be seen when it’s highlighted. I have tried disabling all plugins with no avail. I’ve attempted to use all of the default themes. The browser does not matter… I’ve cleared the cache, and history on all browsers — Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Chrome. Under “posts” the word count shows 0, but the post is actually over 3000 words. The “Visual” tab looks exactly like the “Text” tab.

This happened randomly, and I have no idea why. I normally never ask for help, but I’m puzzled here.

I should be more specific. I cannot use the visual editor, or html editor. These issues manifest while editing an existing post, or creating a new post. I’ve tried switching to the Twenty Twelve/ Twenty Eleven theme, but my problem stays the same.

I’m fairly certain that I need to reinstall WordPress, but I’m trying to avoid that. I don’t really care if I have to do that, but I don’t really want to. Yoast’s SEO plugin is not accessible, no matter the circumstance, even while I’m attempting to edit a post. What do you recommend?

I’m on a Debian VPS server running Apache2.

If it makes you feel any better, there have been quite a few other people with similar issues. You’ll need to go through all the steps in this thread:

Some of them you’ve done, yes, but be methodical and complete to hopefully identify the problem.
