Cannot upgrade (2 posts)

I have v3.0.1 of WordPress installed on the site.
Today I have upgraded some plugins, including Akismet. However after trying to also upgrade WordPress to 3.1.1 the system was coming up with an error saying "You do not have permission to access this page directly" although I am logged in as Administrator.
Then I looked at the permissions on the script upgrade-core.php and others in the wp-admin directory.
I changed it all to 755 from 644. However now I am getting a "page could not be found..." error when trying to upgrade automatically from within the Dashboard, logged in as Administrator.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    - re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.
