I am having the same problems with my blog. Is there a patch or can someone give us the steps to correct this?
Thanks
Matt
Okay, updated to 2.1.1 and yet it's still not allowing me to actually type. I can put in the title, but that's it.
Also, if I edit pages, any text that was there starts to load, showing the code, then loads completely. When it loads completely, the text is gone and I once again cannot type in the post.
Is there anything to fix this problem?
We'd love to tell you how to fix the problem, but nobody else seems to be having it.
I suggest that you:
a) Make sure that you uploaded *all* the wordpress files correctly.
b) Clear your browser cache and reload the write pages by hitting CTRL-F5.
c) Turn off whatever ad-blockers, privacy protections, proxy servers, etc that you may have running.
d) Disable your plugins and see if they might be causing the problem.
e) Try other things until you figure out what the actual cause is.
In short, this is not a known problem with WordPress. It's not something everybody else is experiencing.
Well, someone else said they were having it.
Fantastico installed my wordpress, so I don't think that would be the problem.
I cleared my browser cache and reloaded, still didn't work.
Turned off securites and ad blockers (even though they never stopped it before) and it still didn't work
Disabled plugins (it hadn't worked BEFORE I got the plugins, but I gave it a shot anyways) and I still can't type.
And as for the "try other things" suggestion, I wouldn't know where to begin. I'm really really frustrated :(

Don't be too sure about that. I've not seen good success with automated WP installers.
I am also having this problem after a fantastico install. The title box is fine, but I cannot type in the text box.
Well, gee.... I just did a fantastico install on one of my domains. It works just fine, Otto; no posting problems at all (not that I'm going to use it - it's 2.1.2 so I'll be deleting it shortly). And as far as "no one" else having this problem: besides the three people in this thread....
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/107297?replies=52 (which has several more users reporting troubles of this nature)
I've got probably 20 fantastico installs (and I've done over a hundred with it over time). They all work just fine (caveat: they are NOT 2.1+). It's not fantastico....
For those of you having problems, try reading over the thread I linked to here. Some of it's QUITE interesting. Some of it may even be helpful.
I have sometimes had problems like this with WordPress and other server-side software... the problem seems (though I'm not 100% sure) tied to javascript on those pages not loading fully. I find that often the browser never fully loads, so I click the "stop loading this page" button and then I can type in the box... hope that helps a little...
btw, I don't use fantastico and never have used it.
I was ALSO having this problem.....it's not isolated....wish we could figure out the cause. HOWEVER, I did try WordPressChina's 'stop loading' trick and it did work. Thank you!
yes, unfortunately I don't believe the problem is with WordPress... I have this problem on other software that uses js.... the problem really just seems to be a combination of browser and the Internet... I doubt there is much WordPress can do to "really" fix this... :(
Has anyone figured this out yet? I'm having the same problem. I can't click in the box where I am supposed to be able to type. My friend can from her computer so I'm sure it's something to do with my set up but darned if I can figure out what.
Michelle
I just switched to mozilla firefox browser and all is fine. Just wanted to let others know.
I'm having this same problem, and have tried absolutely everything I can think of, and it is still happening.
I just installed the latest version of WordPress (2.2) and I'm having the exact problem as you guys. I can't type in the Post Box in IE 7 but it works fine in Mozilla Firefox. Any known fixes for this problem in IE 7?
I think I figured it out. Check and see if you logged in on another machine. As soon as a logged out of my other PC I was able to edit the post box on my laptop.
I've had the same problem this week. I can't type in the Post field if I go there directly through the wordpress/wp-login.php. of my website. As a workaround, I go to my latest blog post, hit the "Edit" function, then go to the "Write" tab on the Dashboard. Works every time!
Just for the record... I'm using IE7 and it creates an error message that reads:
Line: 176
Char: 290
Error: Access denied
Code: 0
This is followed by my URL that ends in wordpress/wp-admin/post-new.php
Also for the record: the WordPress community is great and I'm really glad I found it! I'm convinced the problem is with IE7. It's notorious for messing things up.
I had this problem at one time to. It has something to do with installation. It also affects what the other fields where one might type like adding a category or a user.
Oh I uninstalled and had a friend who had been successful with installation recently - reinstall my wordpress. :)
hi all,
i recently installed WP 2.3 (manually) @ http://icite.freehosting300.com/ ...
all else seems to be working superfine...
except the posting page...
new-post.php just wont load on any browser on my machine...
all other pages load and the other features work just fine...
and i am also able to post through 3rd party apps like Deepest Sender...
but, the New-Post.PHP/Write Page on my WP Dashboard just wont load... :((...
what to do ??... :|...
I had the same problem with IE7. I tried everything. Then I renamed the folder
wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/spellchecker
to something else. Just to make sure, the problem is not with the spell checker. Well, IE7 worked fine!
But just to make things weird - after this I deleted the whole tinymce -folder, and reinstalled it from the 2.3 packet - and everything still works, now with the spell checker?

This problem has to be related to the spell checker. I think the problem is with the languages. It tries to search for wp´s local language - and if its not found, it should use English. I red from somewhere, it tries to use the translation from Google...

Anyway, everything works for me now, but feels a little insecure.
