• Hi. I’m having trouble setting up an account. I entered all info correctly, clicked the verification email and finished the setup as usual.

However, when I went to the ‘Online Backup Settings’ and entered my login details I got this message: “Communication with the online backup vault failed. Please ensure your blog is able to perform HTTPS requests to https://wordpress.backup-technology.com. You may need to contact your web host regarding this. The error was: [Error Code http_request_failed] error setting certificate verify locations: CAfile: /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt CApath: none .”

I contacted my host (Dataflame) and they came back with this response: “We have checked that this plugin uses ssl means https to login and it access our server from ” https ” . Your domain dont have ssl installed.
And it seems to be the issue with wordpress plugin. and wordpress is the third party software so you will need to contact wordpress support for this. Our server is updated. and we cannot check what is exact requirement of that plugin as its a third party plugin.”

I’ve not had this problem before and I have several websites using Online Backup for WordPress with the same host!

Any help would be much appreciated…

    Hi MartinEssex,

The host has got the complete wrong end of the stick. I’d ignore what they said completely.

You don’t need SSL setup. Your host is connecting to OUR SSL, which does have SSL setup. But your host needs to verify our website from it’s pre-definied list of trusted certificate authorities (CAs) but that error you get means your server cannot find this list – it’s missing or corrupt. So it’s a problem with their server config. If they look for that file, /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt it is probably missing.

You’ll find these other topics helpful. First contains a response I compiled for the user to send to the host:

This one the user actually ran their own server and kindly posted what they did to fix the server (so your host will need to do the fix provided, or similar) – also another user was running Windows and had same problem, and I posted a possible fix for it – but he never got around to trying it.

    Hope this helps,
