TablePress
[resolved] Cannot Save Table (19 posts)

After updating to WordPress 3.5.1 and, later the same day, Tablepress 09-RC the Save Changes button stopped working. Clicking Save Changes hangs the system. Preview shows the old status.
The previous version Tablepress plugin version worked fine.
    Theme is Atahualpa.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

The reason for this might be some sort of conflict, e.g. with the JavaScript of another plugin.
If possible, I'd like to take a direct look at this. Can you please contact me via email with details to your site? (The address is in the main plugin file "tablepress.php".)

    Thanks!
    Tobias

    Hi,

Salomon: Sorry to hear that you are also having trouble with this. Can you please contact me via email, as described above?

horus: I've replied to your email yesterday already. Did you maybe not receive it? I'd like to take a direct look at this on your site, if possible.

    Regards,
    Tobias

Preview also changed behavior. It now opens a second window/tab.
NB These changes were not present on another site with a similar mix of plugins.

    Hi,

thanks for the update. That also indicates that something is interfering with the JavaScript.
I'd really need to take a direct look at this on your site, to be able to debug this and find the cause. Can you please create a temporary admin account for me, as mentioned in my email reply?

    Regards,
    Tobias

It might be a Firefox problem. Savings tables works in Internet Explorer, not in Firefox (18.0.1).

Java Plugin 7 update 11 was blocked in Firefox. Could that disable the Save button?

    Hi,

just as an update for everybody: I have checked this out directly on horus79's site, but could not reproduce the issue. It seems to be a problem with Firefox indeed.

horus: I don't think that the Java plugin could do this, but just to be sure (and because Java in general is very insecure, I recommend that you uninstall Java entirely, via the Windows control panel, unless of course you need it for some programs on your computer).

    Tobias

Problem solved. The Pocket (Read Later) Extension (3.0.1) in Firefox (18.0.1) disabled the Save changes function in Tablepress.

    Hi,

technically, it's more like that the Pocket Extension somehow interferes with the JavaScript code, by somehow creating a conflict. The result is of course the same.
Until we find a definite reason, I therefore recommend to deactivate Pocket when working in WordPress with Firefox there.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

    Hi,

as mentioned above, you can find my email address in the main plugin file "tablepress.php".

It is not necessarily a browser issue in your case, but more likely a JavaScript conflict with another plugin or the theme.

    Tobias

You would not happen to have a list of potentially offending plugins?
I cannot save any changes to the table I set up. Neither in MSIE on the WordPress server itself or on my PC using Firefox 19.

Here is a list of plug-ins that are enabled on this site:

Add From Server Version 3.2.0.2 | By Dion Hulse Plugin to allow the Media Manager to add files from the webservers filesystem. Note: All files are copied to the uploads directory.
Ajax Event Calendar Version 1.0.4 | By Eran Miller A fully localized community calendar that allows authorized users to manage events in custom categories.
Iframe to Embed Version 1.2 | By sw-galati.ro Used for embedding PDF files in posts and pages. The code can be placed inside the visual vindow, not in the HTML window. Plugin transforms iframe code to embed code with [iframe src="http://your-file.pdf" width="100%" height="900"] shortcode.
My Link Order Version 3.5 | By Andrew Charlton My Link Order allows you to set the order in which links and link categories will appear in the sidebar. Uses a drag and drop interface for ordering. Adds a widget with additional options for easy installation on widgetized themes.
Order Categories widget Version 3.2.1 | By Sanauna Order Categories widget allows you to set the order in which categories will appear in the sidebar. Uses a drag and drop interface for ordering. Adds a widget with additional options for easy installation on widgetized themes.
Secure HTML5 Video Player Version 2.3 | By Lucinda Brown, Jinsoo Kang An enhanced video plugin for WordPress built on the VideoJS HTML5 video player library. Settings can be easily configured with a control panel and simplified short codes. Video files can be served from a secured private directory.
Show Website Content in WordPress Page or Post Version 1.0.0 | By Christopher Ross Fetches the content of another webpage or URL to display inside the current post or page.
Tweet Blender Version 3.3.15 | By Kirill Novitchenko Provides several Twitter widgets: show your own tweets, show tweets relevant to post's tags, show tweets for Twitter lists, show tweets for hashtags, show tweets for keyword searches, show favorite tweets. Multiple widgets on the same page are supported. Can combine sources and blend all of them into a single stream.
Ultimate TinyMCE Version 4.1 | By Josh Lobe Beef up your visual tinymce editor with a plethora of advanced options.
Wordpress Poll Version 33.5 | By Vinoj Cardoza Wordpress Poll is completely ajax powered polling system. This poll plugin supports both single and multiple selection of answers.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

No, I don't have such a list, unfortunately, and from my experience, it's actually the theme that cause the problems, in most cases.
So, my suggestion is to temporarily switch to the WordPress default theme TwentyTwelve, and to check if the problem persists there. If so, try deactivating those other plugins one by one, until the problem does not longer happen. You have then found the plugin that causes the trouble.

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Thanks for the quick reply!
Just for future reference, disabling "WordPress Poll Version 33.5 | By Vinoj Cardoza" helped.
Now the Save Changes button actually does something! :o)

Next challenge will be to make the table just as wide as it needs to fit the content. I have seen plenty of comments on that so that should work.

    Thanks again!

    Hi,

thanks for this information! Great to hear that you found the reason for the problem. Then this plugin is inserting its JavaScript code in to the TablePress admin screens, which it should not be doing.
You will have to deactivate this plugin, or contact its developer and ask him to fix this.

For the width: Yes, please take a look at the other threads that discuss this. The TablePress FAQ at http://tablepress.org/faq/ might also be helpful, if you want to set column widths.

    Regards,
    Tobias
