Where is the .htaccess file supposed to be?
I went in to change permiswsions on it and can't find it.I thought it was in the root dir. Not there or anywhere else on my site that I can locate.
I'm stumpede.

It should be in the public_html level of your site. Assuming you're on unix, from shell type
ls -la
