There is also this error message:
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.
Try:
– switching to the Twenty Twelve theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
– running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
Thank you! But how can I do that if I’m not able to log into the dashboard?
Please re-read my post above. None of the suggestions I made require you to login to your WordPress dashboard.
Thanks! I followed your first point and switched to the Twenty Twelve theme and I’m now able to get into my dashboard and edit my page.
How should I go about resetting my theme back to what I originally had? I tried to delete it (via wp-admin dashboard) but am not able to.
FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) & delete the theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes.
ok, thanks! delete and then re-install?
Yes = – although if you re-install & activate the theme, you may just trigger a problem all over again.
