   I'm having problems importing a WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR) file from one installation of WP to another. Both are ver. 3.x.

   The error message I receive is as follows:

   Please upload a valid WXR (WordPress eXtended RSS) export file.

   The file in question was exported from a remote hosted WP blog, that I no longer have access to, and I wish to transfer everything to my WordPress.com site

   Weirdly if I attempt to import to a locally hosted 3.x version of WP, the operation proceeds without a hitch. The problem exists only at WordPress.com.

   Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

   Hope this will will provide help for some other poor unfortunate bugger.

   I managed to resolve this by importing said file into my local WordPress and then exporting it again, though some data loss has occurred.

   I've yet to compare the two files closely, however the original is 653 KB (669,207 bytes), and the re-exported one, 443 KB (454,468 bytes). Clearly a significant difference.
