Hi. I wish to have a “bookshelf” on my website that lists books that we recommend our subscribers read, and I’d like it to be simple to administer. I found two other plugins that require enormous amounts of data to be entered in order to work, so I thought I had it made with this one. However, no matter what I do, I cannot get anything other than a text string to appear in the post.

I am in one of the six US states where you can’t be an Amazon Associate, so I checked the box to give the referral fees to the developer, and did not enter an associated ID for myself.

I am putting in the ASIN (which is the same as the ISBN as I understand it), using the Post tool. The only option I have is to “insert link.” I do not see “send to editor” as described elsewhere in the forum. When I do this, and look at the page, I just see the text of the link. I’ll do another one so you can see it at this address: http://184.154.160.6/~tdi33071/category/bookshelf/

I am hopeful that you will be able to get me through this. Thank you.

    Hi,

Like those other plugins you will get the most out of it if you can register for the Amazon Advertising API – I don’t think you have to be an affiliate for this to work.

However without this you can still use some of the ‘Amazon Javascript’ style templates (or a simple text link as you have found).

To insert a ‘Javascript’ based link you need to select one of the following ‘Templates’ before you hit ‘Insert Link’:

    Iframe Image
    Carousel
    My Favourites
    MP3 Clips

The first one is meant for individual items, the others are really for when you want multiple items displayed in the same element.

One of the problems with these sorts of links is that they are based on javascript hosted on Amazon’s servers. This means that any ‘adblock’ software tends to stop them showing up when visitors view your web site.

    Hope that helps,

    Paul

Hi Paul, and thanks for your reply.

I am not getting a text link. I am getting a text string that is being generated by the post tool. It looks exactly like this on the website page linked above:

    [amazon asin=1400063515&template=iframe image]

Is there another way that I should be inserting information into the post tool so that it will display properly?

Here is what I have done:
    1. added new post. Title of post is book title.
    2. Skipped everything else down to the Amazon Link section.
    3. Added the ISBN number, which I understand to be the same as the ASIN in the box labeled ASIN. (The number is 1400063515.)
    4. Link text defaulted to Amazon; I left it as is.
    5. Template – I chose the Iframe template.
    6. Hit “insert link,” which is the only option I have.
    7. It inserted this link: [amazon asin=1400063515&template=image&title=-&image=-]
    8. Clicked “Update” for the post.

It still shows as the text string in #7 above.

What am I doing wrong here?

    Thank you so much.

I think I have this working now, at least for the time being. I was using a post in a category, with the category then creating the menu item. I am now using a page, and the carousel is working fine as far as I can tell.

I suspect the issue might be a problem with the theme, not the plug-in, as I am having a shortcode issue with another plugin as well.

    Thank you for your help.
