Cannot edit posts in 3.3. (22 posts)

Since upgrading last night, almost nothing works on my edit page works, including the help tab. I can see the red underline dots where the misspellings are, but I can't see the text and I can't switch to HTML view. I can publish and preview, but I can't edit.

I deactivated all my plugins, and it still doesn't work (and now my site is a mess).

Also, the usual wordpress favicon is missing too. What's going on?

Rename the plugins folder to plugins-old (yes, I know, deactivating SHOULD have done that). Then dump your browser cache completely - Kill it with fire.

Ipstenu thanks for the help but that didn't work either! I wish I never upgraded to 3.3

Hi Alexa, I just wanted to double check, have you already ran through the basic troubleshooting steps?

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Hi Brad. The only think I haven't tried on your list is switching to Twenty Eleven. I'll try that, but I'm a little hesitant. Won't that change the whole look of my site?

Hi Alexa, yes it will change the look of your site, but only for a moment or two while you actually test it.

Ok I've also done that now, and I still couldn't edit posts under the Twenty Eleven theme. I switched it back. I guess it's a mystery

Is there a way to call wordpress and get help?

I don't believe there is actually a WordPress phone number, but you could google for WordPress Paid Technical Support and I'm sure you could hire a third party developer to review the issue for you.

WordPress is a free product, supported only by this free forum staffed by volunteers (like me). You can hire people at jobs.wordpress.net or codepoet.com if you're in need. Otherwise, it's the forums.

Have you read through ALL of this: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/troubleshooting-wordpress-33-master-list

It looks like I've done everything except the manual install, which I'm worried to do on my own. Thanks for your help, guys. I didn't realize you were volunteers.

You might want to check if your JAVA is working, http://java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

If so, you can also try deleting the wp-admin folder and uploading a fresh copy to the server. Wp-admin contains all the javascripts used to run the back-in. It is possible that one is contaminated.

The manual update is easy and safe as houses :) Can you copy files to a new folder? You can totally do this :D And I promise that you won't be deleting any of the files you've customized, like plugins and themes.

Grab a fresh ZIP from http://wordpress.org/download/

Thanks for the encouragement. I did the manual update and checked the Java. Nothing is working. I still can't see my posts. The only plugins I have left are askimet, google-analyticator, subscribe-to-comments, and wp-db-backup. I've deactivated and reactivated all of them with no results. I'm not sure what else to do.

I just about an hour ago manually uploaded 3.3 to one of my wordpress sites. My site works fine and I am able to see everything from a visitor standpoint. My issue which appears to be the same as Alexa's is that when I am in wp-admin none of the editors are working the way they should.

I can type in a title in a post or page and it shows up fine. However in the body copy, I can type but it shows white text on a white background. None of the formatting menus show up either within the admin.

    Thanks.

Did you try renaming the plugins folder to plugins-old?

There's a reason we list multiple things to do on this list - http://wordpress.org/support/topic/troubleshooting-wordpress-33-master-list

    Try them ALL.

Thank you for your reply. I am sure being in a position where you feel you are answering the same question over and over and over can be frustrating, especially considering all the time you have invested as a volunteer. I wish to tell you that I am very grateful for what you and everyone else have done to make WordPress the best tools out there and it has become a key part of my life and work.

Yes, I have read all of the master list and then some. None have solved the issue with the admin page and post edits.

I have rolled my sites back to the previous version of WordPress. I found a version of WordPress 3.2.1 and overwrote the wp-admin, and wp-includes folders along with the root wp files only keeping my wp-config.php from being overwritten.

Thank you. I apologize for posting a question in this forum.

It's fine to post a question :) We would like it, though, if you could tell us what you DID do to troubleshoot already ;) (otherwise I have to ask those silly repetitive ones and it annoys you and me -- I hate having to say it as much as a lot of you hate seeing it).

The reason I keep pestering people about dumping caches, trying different browsers, and renaming the plugins folder is... they work. For the majority of people out there.

There is a KNOWN problem with browsers being idiots and caching data and not letting go. In particular, the jQuery bump from 1.6 to 1.7 is causing some errors that simply should not happen in a well built browser. Firefox, Chrome, Safari are ALL experiencing this one. Sometimes. Other times they're just fine. It's maddening.

Try installing the Use Google Libraries plugin.

Hi all. I had to call someone to fix the problem because I had done every single thing on the list. The gentleman offered me this explanation in his email:

"There's a minor bug in 3.3 that was concatenating javascript files.

I installed "hotfix" which is a plugin that disables this until the new WP comes out (3.3.1 will have a fix)"

I am able to see and edit my content now, thank goodness!

Thanks to all on this thread. I had the same problem as Alexa and the hotfix plugin resolved it.
