Cannot delete a widget, can no longer drag widgets! HELP! (8 posts)

Hi there. I was using wp version 3.3.2. Everything was going smoothly and I could drag and drop widgets as I pleased.
Then all of a sudden I could no longer drag and drop widgets, I could no longer delete them, and I could no longer edit them in the little pop-up window like before. Now when I click 'edit' on a widget, it takes me to a new window, with some choices and also the message:
Catchable fatal error: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string in /home/lauras/public_html/wp-includes/general-template.php on line 2274

I have done lots of reading on these forums and around the web, and all recommendations are to deactivate widgets, and also to update to the latest version of wp. I have done both of these things, and nothing seems to change. I'm now using version 3.4.

I'm using the theme duotive 3.
My site is http://www.lauradraws.com, and the trouble began on http://www.lauradraws.com/blog, when I added the blogroll widget. I want to get rid of it so badly!

This is really important, I need this blog to go online very soon to coincide with a big art show that is important to my business. I've done all the fixes that I can possibly find, and I'm at my wits end! Please help me!

    Many thanks in advance.

Your theme Duotive Three is either broken or outdated. Revert to the default WP theme Twenty Eleven and see if the problem persists.

    Hi! Thanks for the advice.

I'm really reluctant to do this as I've done a lot of work within the duotive theme.

If I revert, will I lose all the adjustments I've made within duotive? I mean, I've got a back up, but surely replacing everything with the back up will just make the same problem come back!

Can you explain what happens when you revert to a default theme?

    Thanks

    Laura

    This explains it.

All themes have to be updated to work with WordPress. You did something basically wrong with the theme. You should not have done what you explained above.

However, it is a commercial theme. You can seek support from your theme vendor. This forum does not support commercial themes.

I asked you to revert to the default theme because the theme is broken/badly coded.

    I hope you understand.

I'm sorry but this doesn't make sense to me.
By 'doing work within the duotive theme' I mean I've made sliders, galleries, etc that are only available through duotive. That is the idea of themes, I thought, they give you access to certain things that basic wordpress does not.

I don't really understand why I should not have done this. WordPress encourages the use of themes, but now it sounds like I should feel guilty for using one.

WordPress does not support commercial themes. Dispute this?

I was not aware of this. There aren't very obvious warnings. But I guess you are right.

I've contacted duotive about the problem, I will be in touch again if they refer me back to you.

    Many thanks.
