Cannot Add Gallery

Hi,
I’m new to WordPress, but I am trying to create a gallery on my webpage using NextGen. I followed the install instructions, but I get the following error when I try to add a gallery. Can you tell me what I should do to fix this?
Directory wp-content/gallery/ didn’t exist. Please create first the main gallery folder! Check this link, if you didn’t know how to set the permission: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions
(I checked the link, but I don’t know what it’s talking about.)
