Cannot activate Wordfence

Hi,

Today I was looking for some security plugins, I found wordfence, read the features/reviews, downloaded it, installed the plugin via wordpress backend – but I can’t activate the plugin, instead, it is loading the page for a few seconds, until the wordpress pop-up appears with “plugin installed” – but when I look back to the plugin list: Wordfence is still deactivated.

I found some one year old postings about a similar problem, e.g. tried to delete it, install it again, I deleted the database entries, which were created by wordfence, but it still won’t activate.
I don’t have installed any other security plugins, just some anti-spam, but nothing like WP better security, which changes a lot of entries.
Any ideas, how I could activate wordfence?
