I'm interested in developing a new site, using a WP 3 column theme that fits certin characteristics. My current site (http://www.avalon5.com) is based on a 2 column theme called "headspace" which I've modified to suit my needs, but I now want to do something different using a theme that conforms to the followng:-

    1) Large / wide theme - not limited to 800x600 screen, best viewed at 1024x768
    2) Horizontal navigation menu/links across bottom of header image before content.
    3) left column for all usual calenders, links, categories etc.
    4) Right column for ads/recent posts/related posts/recent comments etc.
    5) Middle column for content
    6) Site will need lots of space in middle column for content so good use of the screen width is required with enough room for banners / ads etc.

I know there were a load of themes in the recent competition, but did any stand out against the above criteria? Are there any specific themes that you would recommend I check out in this context? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi,

I made a three-column theme base on the default two-column Kubrick theme. Hope you like it. :-)

Try Gila or Bricks. They are the best IMHO. Most three-column themes are defincient in one way or other. I went through the whole list at multiple sites.

    Cons
Bricks has some minor issues I cannot remember now otherwise great.
Gila is neat but bit SERP unfriendly as sidebars are loaded first before content. So expect to see strange excerpts in yahoo or Google.

I use gila derivative on my computer job site.

Now you can try the 3 column Anaconda theme. It is css based and seo optimized.

    > 1) Large / wide theme - not limited to 800x600 screen, best viewed at 1024x768
Check. Anaconda adjusts to the screen width. It is a flexible theme will flexible center / content column and partially flexible left column.

    > 2) Horizontal navigation menu/links across bottom of header image before content.

    Check on both.

    > 3) left column for all usual calenders, links, categories etc.

You can select the contents of your sidebar using drag-n-drop (requires widget plugin). The theme is widgetized and comes with 17 quality wordpress widgets (including what you are looking and more) and with inbuilt support for 15 popular WordPress plugins out of the box.

    > 4) Right column for ads/recent posts/related posts/recent comments etc.

    See above.

    > 5) Middle column for content

    Check.

    > 6) Site will need lots of space in middle column for content so good use of the screen width is required with enough room for banners / ads etc.

    Check.

You can find a demo here.

I just downloaded the Giraffe2 theme. I really like it, but am having a couple of issues with the text formatting with links and picture wrapping.

    Here's the link:
