I have a main site for my business, running a custom script. I’d like to install wordpress mu for client work at clients.mydomain.com. Then, I’d use the subfolder so clients.mydomain.com/client1

I can’t find anything about installing WPMU into a subdomain, can this be done? My main domain has the www prefix, which I’ve read can be problematic with WPMU.

    2. Install WordPress 3.3.1
Install WordPress 3.3.1 to the root of your public_html directory. It has to be at the root or the multi-site feature won’t work. Follow the instructions for Installing WordPress in the Codex.

Ah, thanks Axel13. Can this be the root of the subdomain, or must it be the root of the main domain?

    Axel is 100% incorrect.

    Sorry.

You can install WordPress in a subdomain exactly like you described. Works fine.

What you can’t do is put it in clients.mydomain.com and then have a subsite of clients1.mydomain.com 🙂
