   Whenever you use the uploader built into wordpress, the image that you insert into the post always becomes a link.

   is there a way around that so that they are not linked and opened in new pages?

   Take note of the "Not Linked" instructions.

   When you've inserted the image in Add New Post, click on it and 2 boxes will come up. Click on the one in the left (Edit Image). Under Link URL, select 'None'
