Can this "read more" issue be done (18 posts)

I want to have one long post with various headings and under each heading I want to have text. My question is how can I for one such text of paragraph have the read me but for the other headings to continue or can it be done.
    Example:
    Heading 1
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. (Read the rest of the story)

    Heading 2
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

See if I put the read more option where it is inserted now because heading 2 is not a separate post but a continuation... nothing will appear.

How do I get about doing such a thing. Please help!

    Hi

To my knowledge nothing like this is built into WordPress. You would have to manually insert the text, the read more, and the link to the full article.

WordPress is intended to have multiple posts per page. You can have more than just one posts page. If both of those articles were in the same category, for example, you could display them as two posts on a page with only posts from that one category. Then each could have its own Read More tag handed automatically by WordPress.

From what I know about the more tag, it can't be done. Looks like you'd need to write a custom function and put it in the functions.php file.

I dont think I have made myself clear here.

I only want the "THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG.THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG." not to be seen on the page. I want the next paragraph that is starting from Heading 2 to be there.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. (Read the rest of the story)THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG.THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG.

    Heading 2
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

That is what I have come to realize that it cannot be done in wordpress just by clicking on something. I am clueless when it comes to coding. That is what I want to know can someone tell me what needs to be done - the coding

    1) Create the full post of Heading 1 as a post. Make note of the post's URL. Let's say it is http://mydomain.com/heading1

    2) Wherever your long post with multiple parts of articles is, your code looks like this

    <h3>Heading 1</h3>
<p>The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. <a href="/heading1"><strong>(Read the rest of the story)</strong></a></p>

    <h3>Heading 2</h3>
<p>The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. </p>

I cannot do it this way because my "heading 1" will not have a url because it is part of the text.

OK, let's start over. You say you want the (Read the rest of the story) to link to something. Whatever the URL is you want it to link to, insert it into the code.

If you still say you can't do it this way then I guess I have misunderstood what you are trying to do, and I then don't know what you are trying to do. Perhaps you can explain in another way.

OK I want to make a post with several headings eg

    About
    Reviews
    Discount coupons
    Etc

I want all of these above headings in one post, if not it would seem disconnected. All of these headings (ABout, Reviews, Discount Coupons etc) are a part of my text.

Under "About" I want to write something but I do not want the whole story to appear. Somewhere after the 2nd paragraph I want to insert the "read the rest of the story"

Under Reviews I want to put about 10 reviews. But after the the 2nd review I want to insert the "read the rest of the story"

Discount coupons - I want to do the same thing

Etc - I want to do the same thing.

Hope I have made myself clear now.
    Thanks

Well, that is exactly what I was doing in the code I wrote that you said was not what you wanted.

You have to link to the full text of the rest of the article, which means somewhere you have to enter the full article on a page by itself. Yes or no?

So then you insert the link to that full page in the shortened version. Am I missing something?

Isn't there an easier way of doing it just by inserting some code. This is a long process because I will have several pages to do. Not only that I have 15 more pages like this so it is really time consuming.

Hi - If you can explain to me how you think it will work I will try to tell you how to do it.

I think your approach runs against the whole way WordPress is designed to work, but it is your site of course and you can do it as you please.

As I said much earlier in this conversation

WordPress is intended to have multiple posts per page. You can have more than just one posts page. If both of those articles were in the same category, for example, you could display them as two posts on a page with only posts from that one category. I am sorry it is taking me sometime to figure this out because I am rather new to all this. From what I understand are you saying that:

I create 1 post with the heading

    About
kjsdfkjasdf jksdfj sfjskdfj skdfjfjskdf jksdfjskjdfsdf jskdfjskfjsdfskdfj sjdkf sjfdksfj sjdfskdfj read the rest of the story and to create a link here to a page (say page 1) of this post

    Review
kjdfiuasdif sdifuasidf sudifuas df usdfiu asdfiuas fiu dfuiasuf asdf isdfuiasdf read the rest of the story and to create a link here to a page (say page 2) of this post

Am I to understand that for each heading that is About, Review, Discount coupon, etc I will have to create 4 different pages under this one post.

Correct me if I am wrong

In the above scenario, where is the text referred to in (Read the rest of the story) going to be? When they click that link, where is it going to take them?

When they click that link it has to go to

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG.THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG.

That is my entire text has to show up.

That is what I am trying to figure out!!! and dont know how to do

    Using simple logic:

    1) you only want the summary of the text on the page you are referring to - you do not want the entire text on that page

    2) you want a link on that page that when clicked brings up the entire text - rule #1 says it must be elsewhere than on that first page

    3) The places that WordPress provides for putting text are posts and pages.

    4) Thus the complete text must be on a post or page that is not the page used in rule #1.

If you come up with another solution let me know. I have already told you all I can add to this.

Going through over this entire conversation once more I think I finally figured out what exactly you were trying to say. I do apologize very sorry for not reading it more closely and being such a dim wit. Thanks a log once again. I am going to try it out now
