Can someone answer some questions about Page Templates for me?

Hi.

I’m fairly new to WordPress. I have dabbled in some free themes.

I like themes that have lots of page template options (such as full width, two-column, content/sidebar) and all that good stuff.

The more page templates, the better in my mind, because I don’t want to have to go creating a bunch of custom page templates.

Let’s say in theory I am looking at a custom theme that only has like, two page templates advertised under its description. Does that mean two NEW templates added into a set of pre-existing page templates that WordPress already has available?

Or does that mean if I purchase that theme and create my site with it, every single page I create MUST fall under one of those two page template setups?

Would it be really hard to create custom page templates and add them into that theme?

I’m just trying to get a feel overall for dealing with page templates, why some themes have a bunch and others hardly have any, why some would advertise that they only have TWO templates, etc.
