I've sucessfully loaded WP onto a new host package on 1&1.

I can't see my new WP website though (the default one it starts with). When I type the URL into the browser or hit Visit Website from the dashboard it comes up with the 1&1 default website page.

I've been reading the docs and looking through the forum entries. I cleared the browser cache, and that didn't solve the problem. Logically I think my WP website is pointing to the 1&1 page somewhow and I need to fix that, or 1&1 have set up some sort of default address that I need to clear. I don't know where to start though.

I'm dying to start creating my new website (the WP documentation is fantastic) but I'm really struggling to get this set up and working. I have a programming background (er... FORTRAN IV, and some obscure stuff) but next to no knowledge of webhosting and website creation (and terminology). I'm working on it.

I had the same issue with IX WebHosting. The solution was found within the root directory. By default they install an index.html file for their "under construction" page. I simply deleted this file and all is well. You may want to try this.

I am by no means an IT guru....just relaying what I found to work.

@AlpacaBill = your answer is the right one. Every website needs an index file for the main landing page. By default, hosting companies install an index.html file. WordPress operates with an index.php. The index.html file will take over index.php. In order for index.php to operate, we must delete index.html. Good work!

It worked, it worked, it worked, it worked!

Many thanks guys, it's taken me an age to get this far. Now I can start to build my site.

It's all fun from here on, right?
