• Hello I’m running about 20 school sites using version 3.1.4. Up till recently I could access the Network Admin area and update plugins add new sites etc fine. Just come back from holiday and I can enter all my sites dashborads but cannot access the Network Admin area In IE9 i get Http 500 Internal server error, in Firefox I get a blank screen In Chrome I get Internal server error as well

I have tried renaming plugin folders to see if a plugin is causing this but this hasnt helped! Can anyone help me?

    Thanks in Advance

Ive just noticed that when I click on the Network Admin link the www part of the URL is missing!

Are you still on 3.1.4 or did you (or someone) upgrade to 3.2? That sounds like ye olde mismatch between http://www.domain.com and plain old domain.com in your db.

Well, check that your site is consistent in either www or not in your DB.

Sorry dont understand but Ive looked in database it says

    Domain: bradfordschools.net
    path:blogschool
This is the subdirectory i house my blogs in
ive changed domain to http://www.bradfordschools.net and then when i try to get to the Network admin I get a new error message “Error establishing database connection”

Hmm very confused why does this always happen when i go on vacation!

Search the WHOLE database for bradfordschools.net

Look at every instance and see if it’s got www or not. DON’T change anything just yet.

(that said http://www.bradfordschools.net/ and http://bradfordschools.net/ gives me a TEST page for apache)

Hi sorry the MU instance is installed in a folder called blogschool.
    so http://www.bradfordschools.net/blogschool

The other sites are in a folder off this called wp-content/blog.dir

No, those other sites are not IN that folder. wp-conent/blogs.dir is where your uploaded FILES are stored. Nothing more πŸ™‚ Don’t worry about that.

The URL of your subsites will be http://www.bradfordschools.net/blogschool/sitename

    What’s one that’s not working?

    Thread Starter SteveDale

    (@stevedale)

Sorry maybe didnt explain it clearly

All subsites are working fine but i cannot access Network Admin link from these subsite dashboards if i need to add plugin/new site etc. Just get 500 error. Ive installed a whole new instance of WP-MU under a different subfolder and it works fine!

Cause you’re not supposed to. It SHOULD redirect you anyway.

DO NOT try to go to subdomain.example.com/wp-admin/network

    Go to plain old example.com/wp-admin/network

get the snack bar plguin and it will put the proper network admin link in the admin bar.

    Thanks will try!

    Thread Starter SteveDale

    (@stevedale)

    Ipstenu-

    Go to plain old example.com/wp-admin/network

If i try this when not logged in a i get
You do not have permission to access this page

when i am logged in get 500 internal error server message

    /wp-admin/network

Look for the folder on the server. Compare the permissions and owner group for that folder and the files. Make sure they are the same as the rest of WP.
