• Hi guys,

This is a bit of a weird question but I was wondering if someone could help me please?

My website (refugeeks.com) is hosted on a bog standard shared server that runs CPanel at the back end. On my server, I have the WP instance in folder called “RefuGeeks” instead of the root dir. Unfortunately, with my host I can’t change the root directory of my “master domain” (i.e. the original domain the hosting account was created with) so I have to redirect refugeeks.com to refugeeks.com/RefuGeeks.

That’s not really a problem in terms of the URL, however, it is a problem in terms of performance as the re-direct adds around 2 seconds to my load times.

So, what I would like to do if migrate my site to the root of my web host. Again, this isn’t a problem for me as I backup daily so I’ll just re-install WP 3.5.1 and import a backup. However, what does worry me os all the links I have…

For example, a post may be refugeeks.com/RefuGeeks/link-to-my-post so will WordPress be clever enough to know that the new URL is refugeeks.com/link-to-my-post or will I have to manually change all the links across the site?

Sorry for the long winded posts guys but I thought I’d explain myself as best as I can. Thanks for any help in advance!

    Kev

  • This might be just what you need:

But always make a backup copy of your site before doing anything like this :).

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ve asked the question on their forum’s as to whether this will do what I need. From what I read this will change the sites URL’s but I want to ensure that the old URL links will continue to work (well forward to the new ones at least).

Hopefully this will work for me. I’ll update this post once I get an answer just in case anyone else is in the same position as me.

    Thanks again,

    Kev
