    1. Assuming you mean core system translation files. It can’t at the moment. Only plugins and themes for now. I started thinking about supporting core, but other things took priority.

    2. If you’re translating a plugin written by somebody else, I recommend keeping your translations under wp-content/languages to avoid overwrites during upgrades. Loco will automatically use this directory if it appears that’s what you’re using.

Thank you for your prompt reply! 🙂

1 – OK, as soon as this feature is ready I will definitely trash “the other localization plugin”… 😉

2 – thank you for the advice.

Keep up the good work, bye!

I’ve added experimental support for this in the current development version (which will become v1.4.5 quite soon) https://wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate/developers/

You have to enable the feature on the settings page, then if you have core translations available in your languages folder you should see a list of packages below themes and plugins on the main listing page.

You’ll need at least one PO file or a POT file in each namespace to see that package appear. e.g. wp-content/languages/admin-fr_FR.po

This is experimental, because it has some difficulties in the way core translations differ from plugin and theme packages. Core translations are split across multiple PO files, although they share the same default text domain. They also have overlapping source code directories, so it’s not possible (using the plugin’s current library code) to extract strings from PHP source.

Additionally the translation files are large, and the JavaScript editor needs work to make it perform better.

    Feedback welcome.
