Thanks for the help. I have read that WordPress has a very supportive community.
    I need some clarification.

    1.
Can I use Verizon or 'adobe business catalyst' to HOST my wordpress.org site ?
Both of these offer free hosting to me as a customer.

I would need INSTRUCTIONS on how to configure this on the other side but I cannot find any information. I have come across so many different places where it appears I should begin this configuration 5 minute install etc.... But they seem to overlap (redundant) or point one to another place and it is not clear to me to when to step back into the original steps.

    2.
Also can someone clear this up for me.
    I already create a wordpress.com site.
Then I came to realize that I needed to create a wordpress.org site because I want to install plugins.

I found a youtube video about how to MIGRATE wordpress.com to WordPress.org but there is not a date on this video.
Is this a true way to quickly create the wordpress.org site ?

I actually find it confusing that when on wordpress.org and seeking steps to install, I do not actually see an explanation - so far- about getting a theme etc.

I am using this rather nice set of directions in the CODEX.

I manually installed MAMP on my Mac so I think that I can sort the rest out but if there is anything specific regarding macs please alert me.

I'm not 100% sure, I haven't used either service. As long as they meet the requirements, they should be fine: https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/

Just follow the detailed guide at http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress though keep in mind that some things (how to create the MySQL databases and access the server via FTP, for example) can only be answered by your hosting provider.

You'll need to install WordPress first. Once that's done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

WordPress comes with a theme, so adding a theme isn't part of installation. Once you're done installing, check out https://codex.wordpress.org/First_Steps_With_WordPress

You won't need MAMP to host your website elsewhere. It's only if you want to keep a local copy for development.
