Can I use subdirectories AND multiple domains with WP 3.0+ Network on? (6 posts)

I've looked all over trying to find a straight answer to this question but I can't find anything that knocks the block on the head.

What I am proposing doing is to have a Network MU blog setup that for instance has the main installation on say videoreviewteam.com and then a sub blog on say videoreviewteam.com/tomato, PLUS I would like to have multiple domains attached, BUT I want each top domain to have it's own subdirectory blogs. So basically multiple network WP's that use the same users...

I know it's asking a lot but not only does it seem possible, it seems like with all the time spent on making this CMS the most amazing it could be, that it would be possible to implement such an idea.

I'm also very open to suggestions or roundabout compromises, but if anyone even has broad ideas or suggestions to point me in the right direction that would be grand. I hope I've explained myself in a way that can convey what I'm trying to ask. Thanks, A LOT.

Then you definitely need a multiple network plugin.

Thanks for the links. I will see what I can come up with over the next week, and post a follow up on the progress. I'm still very interested in any other resources if anyone has any links as I'd like to weight my options if possible.

  5. I've already done it.

atypicalife.net is a network inside the install I use to manage my other blogs - wpmututorials.com and ronandandrea.com for two others in the same install. Those are domain-mapped. I use an unused domain for the main site.

http://wpebooks.com/networks/ (obviously, I use this one...)

http://wpmututorials.com/ideas/mixing-mapped-domains-and-sites/ <- old post on how I did it when multiple networks were multiple sites (confused yet? :P )

Okay, just about ready to do this. My question now is for the private domain that will be used for main network site.

Can I install the primary on at an HTTPS:// and have the rest of the sites on a non-SLL? (HTTP://)

If so would that make any difference in security?
