Can I use alternate security to wrap WP

I am trying to embed WP inside my current site which uses its own User Access Security (Simple Login by Ricocheting) but I am getting an error. I have placed my lines of code which call the database and the login singleton inside the wp theme index file and the error I get is as follows:

Database Error
Message: WARNING: No link_id found. Likely not be connected to database.
Could not connect to server: marsec.db.3397163.hostedresource.com.

I understand the database can’t be found but it can on all non-wp pages so is there a configuration setting in WP that is keeping me from making the connection?
