are you using a something.wordpress.com site, hosted at wordpress.com?
Or are you using a self-hosted domain.com type site, using wordpress.org software?
If the second, you can do anything you want. WP provides the software, you run free!
Hm.
I don’t know.
I haven’t started yet, and I don’t know the difference.
Internet-speak has never been self-evident to me.
I was just about to sign up with BlueHost and download the software.
I would recommend you continue on with your plan!
bluehost may even have a 1 click WP installer, but installing yourself is always good practice.
But, if you are getting your own hosting, that means you are using wordpress.org software
Which is a good thing. That means you can use any theme, plugin, etc. as well as edit code, and yes, you can sell ad space
Right,
If you’re starting from scratch you should use something like hostgator. It comes with a one button wordpress installer and videos on how to install a wordpress site. It’s what I used for my site [removed link] and it’s worked out great so far.
Then once you have a site, you can sign up for a google adsense account to create advertisements on your page. Then all you need is visitors and you’re all set. Post if you have any questions.
I have a similar question. I have a registered domain name, that I registered through the upgrade your blog section of wordpress.com (i.e., the url is example.com, not example.wordpress.com). Would I be able to sell adspace on this site?
registered through the upgrade your blog section of wordpress.com
this means you are in the wrong forum –
for all things related to WordPress.com, please ask at http://en.forums.wordpress.com/ or contact http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
You don’t have to base your hosting decision on one-click installs; many hosting companies have that. 😉
As for monetizing your site via ads, yes, you can easily place ads or adsense on your site but actually earning money is not so easy…
