Can I seemlessly integrate WordPress? (4 posts)

First of all.. is this site created with WordPress? http://www.thecreativedistrict.ie/

Looking through the code, it seems the blog is powered by it, but it looks so beyond WordPress that it is mind boggling.

I am looking at adapting either Drupal or WordPress, although for my needs WordPress is more than enough. After researching Drupal, at first glance it seems so backwards in the solutions that it offers to make your site actually look the way you want it to look. To go beyond the standardized 'Drupal' look.

My only request is that I can somehow make my website look exactly how I want it to look. And that I have some light CMS features such as a way to blog, and a way to dynamically show content from my blog on the front page.

This is my current website: http://www.easternstrategicmaterials.com/ESM/

Would it be possible to replicate this navigation layout with WordPress? I am specifically talking about the graphics for the buttons on the top. Where would I start with this process?

If anyone could give me some helpful links, or encouraging comments, or maybe a rough difficulty estimate for my little project.. let's say on a scale of 10 points, that would be awesome!

Also, it is confusing that making 'themes' seems to be free, yet there is a paid-service for customizing CSS. How does this work exactly?

    Thanks for any advice!

    Yes

You'd either need to develop a custom theme or re-model an existing theme.

The paid-service for customizing CSS is specific to wordpress.com sites where users cannot upload their own themes.

Thanks for the answers.. I started following some screencasts, and I am now building a theme from scratch, learning as I go.

One thing I can't seem to get right though, is it impossible to directly post images in my index.php layout? Namely in the header section. I can't seem to get them to display, however images that are called by my Style.css file are appearing properly.

If this is the case.. what method do I use to implement CSS image replacement with my navbar buttons?

If you;re adding image markup to a template file, I'd suggest placing the images in your theme's images folder and then using:

    <img src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/images/myimage.jpg" width="xx" height="yy" alt="" />
