[resolved] [closed] Can I not use multisite with subdirectories? (6 posts)

Hi all, I currently run http://utilitiessavings.co.uk/ and use the blog engine as our utilities news page. But we are at the point now where we would like a blog as well, so multi-site seems perfect. However I do not want to use subdomains and my wordpress has been installed for quite a few months now:

You cannot choose sub-directory Install in the following cases:
If your existing WordPress installation has been set up for more than a month, due to issues with existing permalinks. (This problem will be fixed in a future version.)

Does this mean my current wordpress installation? Or does it mean if i upgraded to WP3 over a month ago?

If so I guess I will have to wait for the update :(

I thought about making the utilities news page only show posts from a certain category, and making a blog page that only shows posts from the other categories - maybe this would be a simpler solution?

Any help is very much appreciated. (BTW, I will upgrade when I decide to go multisite)

    Regards,

this only applies if you have been on 3.x.x for more than 30 days

since you are on 2.9.2 this is not an issue

Ah thanks a lot! I shall give it a bash! Maybe change the wording unless I'm the only one confused by it! :S

I created a new multisite with subdirectories manually because I had uploaded already all my pages and I couldnt select subdirectories.
I was using a simple custom permalinks structure in my localhost site ( /name ) Unfortunately I am not very experienced. I imported my pages from localhost. Everything worked except for one "little" problem. If I click on the site name of e.g. site2 I am getting the message "Directory has no index file", but when I call my startpage in site2 its fine. What did I wrong? Must I install WP also in the subdirectories?

    Thanks for any hints!!
