Can I mix categories and posts on navbars?

    I currently have a theme where I can have pages on the navbar or categories, but I don’t seem to be able to have either.

    I would like to be able to display some categories alongside some pages- is this possible?

    If it’s not, is there a way I can have a category display a ‘default’ post, instead of a list of posts available in that category?
