Can I do it with wordpress? (7 posts)

Well, I was asked to create a website for an english course here in my city. The site must have a database, in which teachers and students will be able to login in order to see its private content. Teachers will have to fill in their class plans, write reports on students, update their total of hours given and stuff like that... Students will have to login in order to ask questions, doubts, read their teacher's reports, print their monthly bills, etc. Probably a single user won't be able to read/see other user's info, example: student A can't read/see student B reports/grades, etc...

Now, how do I do it? Is it possible to do this with wordpress? Do you recommend any other CMS?

    thanks!

WordPress can do lots of things with customization and plugins, but have you looked into a regular CMS like Drupal?

I don't know, but it would probably be easier with an "out of the box" CMS. Joomla! is another open source CMS.

Joomla has a really high learning curve, IMHO, and Drupal isn't that much better. Plus Drupal sometimes wigs out and changes permissions capriciously. I suggest CMS Made Simple along with a module called FEU (Front End Users). Users must register/login to view private content but they are allowed to upload their own files.

WordPress CAN do some of these things, and the day that it has a robust Private Login/Members only feature, that's the day I'll forego all other CMSs for WP. But we simply aren't there yet. These plugins *might* help you on your way:

thanks for the prompt reply. I googled about this a few hours ago and what I need is what they call LMS (learning management system), so I was wondering if there is a LMS kind of plugin for wordpress.

You can do this and organize it much better in WordPress Multi-User. Each course or teacher can have their own blog/CMS/forum. New teacher or new course, just add in Site Admin.

No limits on what you can do with WordPress or WPMU as long as you know how to do it. I could say the same for Drupal, Joomla! or other application. Good luck.
