   I want to create a site that would be a crowdsource one. People would join the site and work together on a project.
   The project would be done in stages - each stage would have various solutions to a topic, written by the members (solutions can be provided by any member). Then, the community of members would vote on the best solution, which would then be added to the body of the project.

   This same process would be repeated until the project is completed.

   I hope this makes sense; I am intentionally being a little secretive because I don't want to disclose the full scope of the idea.

   I am quite sure WP can support this type of site, but what would be the best solution?

   I think it is a good idea, as well, and I don't want anyone else to "borrow" it before I have the chance to give it a try myself...

   Github might be good to host this type of thing. Use WP for the voting etc

   Maybe take a look at buddypress with a few other plugins for content submission?

   Gerald,

   I am already using Buddypress. My issue now is that I cannot find a good solution for posting individual projects and voting on them.
   For instance, I want the community members to post an article. Then, the other members of the community would be able to vote on that individual article.

   What I am doing now is allowing people to add the article to the comments of a post, this way other people can vote. But that's absolutely not idea.

   Might be worth asking on the BuddyPress forums in case anyone has done something similar.

   Sounds like you could use posts (or a custom post type) with comments, and a voting system for those comments, per project.

   That's exactly what I am using now, but it does not look 'clean'. I was hoping there would be something a little more professional looking.

    I too am trying to make a sight like yours, forsubscriptionsonly. Have you had any luck finding a theme or plugin that does the job? I have buddypress installed right now.

    Also, what exactly does Rich 'elfin' Pedley mean by a voting system for the comments? Are you referring to a plugin?

    Yes, that's exactly what Rich meant. There are plugins to rate comments.

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/comment-rating/ for example.

    And that was just the first hit on a Google :)
