I designed a shopping cart for the sole purpose of web design and providing customizations for content management systems. I'm just curious if it is legal for me to advertise "WordPress Installation" for a set amount of money. Can I (with the customer's consent) legally log into the customer's CPanel and install WordPress? Here is what my ad says:

    "STEP #1
Domain Name - You can't have your own website without a domain name (unless you use someone else's). Choose a unique domain name (example - yourname.com) for your website. You can purchase your domain name from HostGator at the same time you purchase your hosting plan if you choose. If you already have a domain name purchased, then move on to step 2.

    STEP #2
Web Host or Server - I currently do not host websites on my server other than my own. You need to have a hosting account with CPanel (or similar) in order to install your website. I recommend "HostGator" since I've had a really good experience with them. HostGator is pretty cheap and they have great customer service in case you have any problems or questions. You can find the banner for them below. If you decide to sign up with another host, please make sure they have the following in order to run your WordPress website:

    Web Host Server Requirements:

    PHP version 5.2.4 or greater
    MySQL version 5.0 or greater
    The mod_rewrite Apache module

    STEP #3
Purchase This Package - After you have your server or host ready, purchase this package! In the checkout page (before you go to PayPal to finish paying) there is a box "Add Comments About Your Order" where you will give me the needed details in order to install WordPress on your server:

1.Email address you choose for your admin account on WordPress
2.Admin User Name (you can choose this name. If not stated, I will use "admin")
3.User name and temporary password for me to log into your server (please feel free to change your password after I am done)
    4.The link to your CPanel

    STEP #4
Wait For My Confirmation Email - After I have completed the installation on your server, I will email you with the details for logging into your WordPress Admin account so you can begin adding your content to your new website. Congratulations, at this point you should have a fully operational website in less than 24hrs from purchase and for only a measly 20 bucks (not including server costs)!"

Any help on this issue would be great since I would like to completely go live with this.

I actually contacted my host and asked them directly about this issue. The answer is "yes, it is ok as long as you have permission from your customer to log into their hosting account". Issue resolved.

  3. As far as WordPress is concerned, yes, you can charge people to install WP on their servers.
