The topic title says it all. I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give on this! Thanks in advance.

Lemme answer your question with another. Why do you want to change the ID #'s? The numbers don't necessarily mean anything in particular and if you enable pretty permalinks you won't even see them. So why bother?

Yes, but it won't be "easy" thus begging the aforementioned question, "Why?"

Why? Because for one thing the categories are displayed by ID order. If you want to use language categories, you would want the language to be the first field to be displayed, before other less important ones. I could probably think of other reasons too.

So? Anybody come up with something? Guess I got to keep on Googling, or trying to mess with the code myself, which I prefer not to.

Well, if this were me, I'd make a backup dump of the database, then go in and tweak the cat IDs and see what happened.

Be aware the ID's are in multiple tables. wp_categories and wp_post2cat. So if you change in one, be sure to change in the other or your posts will lose their association with their categories.

(and, of course, replace "wp_" with your own prefix)
