Can Categorized Pages be Filtered Using "Latest Posts" Widget? (3 posts)

Love the plug-in but I was wondering if it is compatible with WP's "Latest Posts" widget, which lets you select which posts to show based on their category. My hope is to create a widget (and get the shortcode for a widget) that would display ONLY links the pages in a specific category. When I try it, it doesn't work, but I imagine it's because WP is looking among the posts to find the categories I've assigned to pages only. Is there a workaround?

I would say yes and no. All this plugin does is give you the ability to add pages to categories or tags. If another plugin queries posts specifically and not any post type that has a particular category then pages still will not show up. Unfortunately this plugin can't hijack all queries without wreaking havoc on an entire site.

You can easily write you own query to pull whatever content you like: http://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/WP_Query

Thanks, but I could not even begin to understand how to altar the code or write it up myself. I wanted to add press releases to our site, but I don't much care for the way the blog posts look; I prefer the look of a page. I was hoping that by using your plug-in, categorizing press release pages as "press release", and then using the widget shortcode to pull ONLY the pages categorized as "press release," (which I can do for blog posts in specific categories) I could create an in-page list of links to just our press releases. I suppose my only option now is to build it out manually.

    Thanks for your time, though.
