   I know that sounds a bit mad but I need to seperate some new posts from some older posts and so I need to put a heading in the loop but I don't want that heading to loop.

   Not possible?

   If I understand correctly you want to output a heading during the loop but only once.

   How you do this depends on where in the list of posts you want the heading. If you give me a bit more info on what you want I can try and provide some example code.
