[resolved] Can a post or page be invisible online but users can reach it via link? (7 posts)

    Hello,

    I'm using a twentyeleven child theme: http://www.eftbetsycrouse.com

I would like to make PayPal payment buttons available but I would rather the payment page wasn't public. Is it possible to have a page or post in that state?

I tried doing a password protected page, but it showed in the menu bar, and asked for the password when you clicked on the page title.

    Thank you for any help!

So by invisible you mean, not visible in the menu, correct ?

If so, just remove it from the menu.

The thing about menu is that if you ignore assigning the menu manually, it will automatically use fall-back menu which is all the pages you have in the site. So you have go the Appearance > Menu and assign menu manually.

Thanks for responding, paulwp - I appreciate your help. That sounds like an easy fix - yes, I just don't want it to show in the menu.

So if I do this it will supercede whatever has already been assigned to the pages? What I mean is that I've assigned the page order, and sub-menu pages orders, etc. from the "all pages" interface.

    Thanks again!

Hm - I'm trying this but it doesn't seem to let me organize the pages, as I could over on the "All pages" page. Or is all that information retained and used, and this list just gives me the chance to not include one or more pages, which will then not show in the menu?

1 a.m. where I am - will get back to it tomorrow - thanks for further clarification if you can get to it!

    WordPress Menu User Guide

    Custom Menus
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus

Everything you need to know is in those 2 links above. The 2nd link is a documenation over at WP.com ( and WP.com is not WP.org but the point is that the menu system works the same but folks at WP.com always provide more details and more up to date documentation so please just go there and look. )

In short, the menu system doesn't make any changes to your page's content at all, you can even play around with the menu and delete it if not like, and make another new menu over and over, so don't be afraid to try it.

Great - thanks - I'll read through today and see what I can do. I'll post back if I have any questions or to mark this resolved.

    Thank you!
