• Hello

I tried to change the page template. I did this by copying a page.php file from another theme.

However the page still has the same look and feel as the theme.

It appears that I can only do trivial customizations.

Therefore to create a different page template I need to change the theme itself.

In other words I can only have one theme per WordPress installation.

Am I right in making these two assumptions.

    Thanks
    Naveen

  • You can make a page template look quite different than the main theme by substituting different header background footer sidebar styling when a specific page is active.

You can only have one theme active at a time, but you can make a custom template look any way you want it to. Copying code from page.php is only part of what needs to be done. Much of the effects you’d want involve different CSS styling being applied when that custom page template is active. You have to create that CSS.
