Probably but … I have no idea what you mean by ‘country portal’ so generally the answer is this: WordPress can run most types of websites.

By country Portal i mean to say that my site will be large nearly 1000 pages.

I first build my site in joomla but due to some reasons like loading, seo and security i decided to move on to WP

Can large sites with higher number of pages be handled with WP and If possible What precautions should i make while developing and what plugin and steps should i follow.

    Ah.

Generally, yes. However it would be better to use posts instead of pages, just because of how they’re handled with regards to permalinks.

I have well over 1000 posts, pages and custom post types on my site 🙂 No probs.

means i should make post rather than pages.

Will the pages effect my WordPress loading. and how i will structure posts and if i use post even for static pages then what is the difference between a post and a page.

what is the difference between a post and a page.

Using too many pages MIGHT cause problem.

    how i will structure posts

However you want. I would suggest having the date, or some static ‘slug’ in your permalinks.
