Buttons in Visual editor disappear after briefly showing up

    When I open a post in the visual editor I can see my formatting buttons for a fraction of a second before they disappear.

    I have been trawling through hundreds of posts in the last four hours. I have tried all the tips and hacks: disabled plugins, flushed cache, checked permissions, reinstalled four times (manually and through host), tried different browsers (safari, firefox and chrome), commented out lines of code in several .php-files, literally everything people have suggested. It hasn’t helped…

    I am running WP 3.2.1 on a 123-reg linux host.

    Anyone any new ideas? Others still suffering from this?

    I am desperate. My client (my girlfriend) wants it to work…

    Have you tried a different theme? Use ftp or log into your hosted account and rename the theme. That will force wp to open with the default theme.

    commented out lines of code in several .php-files

    Don’t change wp core files.

    I have tried different themes and I have clean installed several times… The bug occurs with twentyeleven or any other theme.

    I have tried it at work on a PC machine with IE8 and it works there. So obviously it’s not a wp problem. SInce it doesn’t work in any of my mac browsers, I am beginning to think it must be a problem with java or so… Keeping on searching.

    When I open a post in the visual editor I can see my formatting buttons for a fraction of a second before they disappear.

    If you use Firefox and Firebug you can find where the javascript conflict occurs.
