I installed Google Analytics yesterday from the Google Anslytics for WordPress plug-in, Version 4.2.2. I chose the defaualt setting to insert the code in the header. I'm using the Theme, Drochilli 1.06.

The plug-in installed oK it appears. It is listed in my Installed Plug-ins list. There is no Activate button. Where that is normally, it says Settings. Ih hav updated the settings a couple of times.

I have read that it takes a day or so to begin collecting data. But shouldn't I see its button in my header if it is installed properly?

    TIA

I original post did not get any replies, so I am following up with some more details in hopes that someone can be of help. If I have chosen the wrong forum for this question, please let me know where I should post it.

Ok, here is some additional details.

First, let me say I’m a newbie to WP.
I have tried two different statistics plug-ins on my WP website. I first tried WP Google Analytics for WordPress. It installed correctly as far as I can tell. I activated it. When I look for statistics after several days now, I see nothing on my website or Dashboard. When I looked at the Installed Plugins section of the Dashboard, it said Settings were other non-activated plugins say Activate or Deactivate. I checked multiple times and I believe I set it up properly.

But after 2-3 days I still don’t know where to look. I thought there would be an icon somewhere to display the results. I did not manually install the Google code, but rather let the plug-in do it.

After a few days, I deactivated Analytics and activated WP-Statistics. Like Analytics, it is supposed to display a large variety of stats. Again I see nothing. In the left hand column of the Dashboard, there is a Statistics section, with links Statistics, Weblog, User Online. But clicking on these does not display any stats. I’m not quite sure what they do or are for.

In poking around I found WP-Statistics in the Widget section. Dragging it over to the column, some high level stats are displayed, which I’m not sure I want public, but again none of the detailed stats the plugin is to provide.

So now, I’ve tried two separate plugins. Analytics does nothing and WP-Statistics only partially works and displays its high level data to visitors. Obviously I am doing something wrong.

Maybe I’m misusing WP. My website is built with WP.org. I’m using a static page where a blog would normally go. From there I link to my blog which I have had on WP.com for some time now. My blog is displaying stats using whatever is provided on wp.com.

Is there something with this configuration that is causing my problem?

    TIA

I just looked at your site and can't see any code for Google analytics in your source. I don't think that you should use a plugin, just get the google analytics code from your GA account go to appearance > themes. Go to your header.php and paste the code above the </head>

That's it.. it should then work.

Thank you, Christine. I will try that, and return if I am still having trouble. BTW, is the reason you did not see the code because I deactivated GA when I tried using WP-Statistics?

At any rate, I will try to install the code manually. Since I am not conversant in HTML, I went with te plug-in. It was my understanding it would install the code where needed.

I'll be back if need be.

Ok Christine, I've done what you suggested. Isee that Analytics is collecting data, and I see tables etc, but I have to go to Google Analytics to see the reports. I thought I would see the data somewhere on my WP Dashboard. Is this assumption wrong?

Also, I believe the Analytics reports are tracking all of my pages. However, the the Google Analytics instructions say to put the code on each page. However, when I look at the HTML for my various pages, they do not seem to have </Head> anywhere. Since I put the code in the theme is that why all of may pages appear to be being tracked?

Also after getting to me current place, I checked the plug-ins and find that it is apparently Activated - I thought I had deactivated it. I assume I can deactivate it, right?

I really appreciate your help. Thank you.
