I have a hosted web site.
    I downloaded and installed WordPress.
    And that's where everything stopped.

My web site has a "public_html" directory where my web pages go. That's also where all the WP folders were installed. I have several html and php web pages for my site, and I wanted to add a WP blog.

Along the way, I've run into a few questions and problems. I've tried reading the Codex and forums to find answers, but to me it's like trying to drink from a fire hose! And since I don't know what I'm looking for, or even if I'm asking the right question, I'm feeling quite lost at this point.

If someone can drop-kick me in a good direction for answers to the following questions, I will be most grateful!

    1) I seem to have lost my log-in at WordPress.org. Username, password, email - WP doesn't recognize anything I type in. I had to create a new account to ask this question. Do I need to worry about recovering the original? Or just go from here?

    2) Every time I try to view a post or a static page in my blog, it opens my index.htm page. How do I stop that? And how do I link into my blog from an htm web page?

    3) I want to include photos and videos in some of my posts. I assume these need to be loaded into a directory on my site and attached into the post, yes? I'd like to have a photo-gallery page and a video-gallery page. I saw something about the gallery tag, and I've also seen a bucket-load of plug-ins. What do I need to know to decide what is best to have simple "here's all my photos" and "here's all my videos" pages?

    4) Is there a way to keep a post, or an announcement, or other block of text, "sticky" at the top of everything until I remove it?

Sorry for all the questions!! WP is obviously so very simple for most people - that's what makes it so frustrating that I can 't find answers to what I know must be common questions.

    1. Just go from here.

    2. You really should have installed WordPress in a sub-folder rather than in the main folder.

    3. Start by reviewing Using_Image_and_File_Attachments.

    4. Edit Post and check the "Stick this post..." in the Visibility sub-menu.

Thanks, esmi, for bearing with me!!

    1. I can do that!

    2. I'll talk to my host and see if I can delete/reinstall or move or something else.

    3. Thank you!!

    4. Thank you once again!!

Okay - I got my WP install resolved with my web host. It looks like it's actually gonna work!! WooHoo!!

But I'd like to revisit #3, if I may:

I'd like to include photos and videos in my posts. I would also like to have separate pages of all photos and all videos. All the photos and all the videos will be stored on my own host site; I will not be pulling from YouTube, Flickr, etc.

I'm not real sure from what I've been reading how to go about this. It seems a lot of people are asking how to put media into their posts, and then extract it into a gallery. Wouldn't it be better to store any media in a folder on my host, and then insert a link into the appropriate post? And somehow generate an ID or class for the link that the separate static page will see and pull the link over into that page?
