I get a lot of spam.
Most of the how to get rid of spam suggestions are ways of getting spam into the "Spam" folder. I would like to blacklist bulk IP's without having to copy and paste each one.
Is there a way to do this?

Spammers change their IP sometimes so list of blocked IP's will not solve your problem with spam IMHO.

But you may try anti-spam plugin.

It blocks spam in comments without captcha and without moderation queues.

It is very easy to use: just install and it just works.

  3. webvitaly is promoting his own plugin :)

Try http://blog.avirtualhome.com/wordpress-plugins/avh-first-defense-against-spam/ It works from a blacklist that is updated each day to take into account changing IPs.

    Or the most used http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/akismet/

@songdogtech Skapegoat has problem with spam and Anti-spam plugin will solve it pretty good. Yes, you are right, it is mine plugin. I made it because I don't like Captcha or extra requests for other servers to stop the spam.

Akismet needs API key to activate it and it is pretty complicated task for some users to get it.

  5. Yes, you are right, it is mine plugin....

You should reveal that when posting.

Ha ha ha. Getting an API key is hardly complicated.

Ha ha ha. Getting an API key is hardly complicated.

IMHO you think that every WordPress user is a experienced one.
But there are many users who can login and edit pages, but does not know the difference between google and internet. :)

But even if the user knows how to get that API key, average user is pretty lazy to make extra steps.

Imagine what will happen if Akismet server will be shut down for 1 hour. If Akismet would be perfect solution against spam than there wouldn't be so many spam-related plugins.

It is easier for spammers to pass one plugin than many. Different alternatives for Akismet is great because it is headache for spammers.

  7. But even if the user knows how to get that API key, average user is pretty lazy to make extra steps.

    So this means exactly what?

Imagine what will happen if Akismet server will be shut down for 1 hour....

OK. It could happen. What's your point?

If Akismet would be perfect solution against spam than there wouldn't be so many spam-related plugins.

Akismet has 14,320,609+ downloads. I guess they must be doing something right.
