Support » Fixing WordPress » Building User Relationships – Family Info Database

  • I spent the better part of an hour trying to find out if anyone else had tackled this but came up empty. I was wondering if anyone had already tackled this subject already, whether it be via blog post or plugin. What we’re trying to build:

    — A family info database that is manageable by the parents.

    What the database will need:

    — Parent1 and Parent2 basic profiles + additional slots for extra emails, phone numbers, address, etc.
    — Child with their own info, either parent should be able to update it.
    — A household that ties parents and children together that has home/shared info and can be managed by the parents.
    — Being able to also group children into a team/class

What we’d do with the info:

    — Build a contact directory if parents opt-in, build a roster of children in a specific group that has their contact info so other parents can contact the families.

A lot of this is pretty straight forward, but what I’m really wondering is how people might tackle the relationship aspect and giving parents the ability to update their household/spouse/child info.

We could somehow create custom post-types and make the children and household post types, but then the children wouldn’t necessarily have access to the site and the parents wouldn’t be able to update each other’s info.

We could make one household profile and make parents and children custom-post types, but the problem with that is if the parents got divorced, then we’d have some sticky situations where a child would be tied to two houeshold and one parent wouldn’t want to be able to see the other parents info.

    Any other ideas?
